Requesting the exam in English
- Say so when booking: the language is chosen at appointment time, not on the day
- If you use a driving school, tell them before they book for you
- Going independently, you pay the fee on the DGT electronic office and book there
- You still need a medical fitness report from an authorised centre
- Bring your original passport, NIE or residence card — photocopies are not accepted
One thing worth knowing
The road signs, the terminology and the situations are Spanish, so the English version still assumes you know Spanish traffic rules. Many learners practise in Spanish deliberately — the app has 6,386 questions and it doubles as vocabulary practice for the terms you will meet on the road.

Frequently asked questions
Can I take the DGT theory test in English?
Yes. The DGT offers the theory exam in several languages including English. You have to request it when booking your appointment, either directly or through your driving school.
How many questions does the Spanish theory test have?
30 multiple-choice questions with three options each. You need 27 correct answers to pass, which means a maximum of 3 mistakes, and you get 30 minutes.
Is the exam the same in English as in Spanish?
The content is identical: the same official question bank, the same format and the same pass mark. Only the wording is translated.
Do I need a Spanish driving school to take the test?
No. You can register and sit the theory exam independently by paying the DGT fee and booking an appointment at your provincial traffic office. The practical test, however, requires a dual-control car, which in practice means a driving school.
Are the practice questions on this site free?
Yes, and no sign-up is needed. The questions come from the official DGT bank. Note that the app itself is in Spanish, which many learners use as extra language practice.
